So this Saturday morning, at 5am, I plan to attend the Global Recruitment Collective (GRC/TRC) Educational Technologists Virtual Job Fair & Bootcamp. After my experience attending the ISS Virtual Fair in November, I definitely plan to do things differently.
- 📅 Add the Google Calendar Event (noting the time zone).
- 🔊 Create a Notification reminder via Email so that I don’t forget it as my week progresses.
- ⏰ Add an Alarm in my Clock for 1 hour before it begins to ensure I am up and ready for it. (Refer to blog post “Your Personal Time Keepers.”)
- 📑 Search the GRC website to discover which schools will be in attendance.
- 📋 Make a list of vacancies I am interested in based on that list.
- 🥸 Update my online profile using a professional headshot, a recent CV, and current references.
- 📚Research the schools on International Schools Review to identify any concerns.
- ❓ Formulate specific questions to ask schools at interviews.
- 🔖 Bookmark key documents to have open during the virtual job fair such as my CV, Philosophy of Education, “The Vault,” prepped interview questions/AI interview cheat sheets.
- 💻 Use a second device to host these bookmarked documents for easy visualizing while using the virtual fair’s platform on my primary device.
- 📶 Locate a strong internet connection. (Refer to blog post “Interviewing Isn’t Getting Easier.“)
- 🔌 Ensure all devices are fully charged with plugs readily available.
- 🎧 Set up headphones in advance to limit background noise during the virtual fair.
- 📱 Practice connecting with the online platform to set up my name credentials, check sound and video, and ensure a professional background.
- 📝 Place a notepad and pen nearby for notes to take during online interviews.
By following these tips, you are bound to have a more successful experience attending a virtual job fair.
